Did you know that the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body, Magnesium is required for 300 bodily functions? It is therefore, no surprise that there are numerous incredible benefits of ensuring adequate Magnesium levels for every body. Here though, I want to share it's specific benefits to women.

As women, we are not only susceptible to general Magnesium depleting habits including sugar consumption, coffee, alcohol and exercise but often also experience deficiency during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's no wonder we can feel so exhausted during this time!

Research shows inadequate Magnesium intake is common during pregnancy and the plasma levels of Magnesium have a tendency to fall – especially during the first and third trimester. There are also many reports of Magnesium helping with morning sickness.

Magnesium is what helps your body repair maintain and build tissue. This becomes especially important when growing another body inside yourself. Medical studies have shown that a Magnesium supplement during pregnancy can provide a number of benefits. It will also assist in warding off Magnesium deficiency symptoms, such as fatigue, aches, pains and cramping, as well as difficulty getting quality sleep and the dreaded brain-fog. Whereas calcium is required for all muscular contraction in the body through the actions of the main proteins in the signalling apparatus. Magnesium on the other hand is required for the relaxation of the muscles.

Maintaining good, strong Magnesium levels during this time not only ensures that you are receiving all the incredible benefits of Magnesium, but so is your little one (double benefit!).

Is magnesium safe during pregnancy

We recommend applying daily on your lower back and the tops of your feet before bed when pregnant or breastfeeding, (applying only to the tops of the feet during the third trimester).
