MENTAL HEALTH

It's Mental Health awareness week, which offers an opportunity to highlight and reflect on the importance of having open conversation, understanding and support for mental health and well-being. For ourselves, our friends and families and within our wider communities, all year around.

We all have a nervous system. Everyone has the potential for this part of our body to breakdown or misfire. And like any illness, some are more vulnerable or predisposed to this than others.

Mental health awareness is about removing stigma and recognising that psychological and emotional struggles are part of the human experience.

Simple kindness, compassion and non judgement, for ourselves and for our fellow humans is healing and powerful. Having someone you trust to listen and validate your feelings and experiences without trying to fix, minimise, sugar coat or put a positive spin on things is essential. It's important to be discerning about who you open up to, sometimes even well-meaning comments are harmful and not everyone is deserving of your vulnerability.

When more support is needed, speaking with your health care practitioner to ensure that you receive appropriate care and medication if required, is something we would 100% encourage.

With these fundamental supports in place, we also feel incredibly passionate about including magnesium in your routine since it has such a positive impact on mental health, as both prevention and management.

Here's four reasons why...

  1. Chronic stress depletes the body of Magnesium and Magnesium deficiency exacerbates stress, depression and anxiety.
  2. Magnesium is required for the release and uptake of serotonin by brain cells.
  3. Magnesium naturally lowers the excitability of the nervous system - think wired, anxious and nervous to calm and centered.
  4. Magnesium reduces chronic pain and insomnia, both of which can be a cause and effect of depression.

Hot Tip...

Be mindful of what information you are consuming on a daily bases. From social media, the TV or radio. Negative News not only sells, but has the power to keep whole populations in a state of anxiety, uncertainty and fear. Tuning out for periods of time is wise and necessary selfcare - we highly recommend it for the well-being of nervous systems everywhere!
